Commissioner Hahn in charge of corruption

French newspaper “Liberty” has pressed serious charges against Austrian EU Commissioner Johannes Hahn. Hahn has reportedly allowed lobbyists to invite him on hunting trips and expensive foods without reporting it, as targeted, appealed ORF and Der “Standard” Hahn denies the accusations. Hahn attended a hunting party in December 2015, which was paid by Lobi Belg of Land Property Owners (ELO). By “Liberty”, under the code of conduct, he was obliged to register participation in the EU Commission.
A Hahn spokesman said, according to the ORF and “Standard”, the invitation from the EU commissioner was “simply of a private nature”. He attended the company of his friend at that time, who had hunting permits. So it was not necessary to access the transparency register.
By “Standard”, Hahn is involved in another conflict of interest: in June 2021 he met three times for dinner with Austrian representative at the Auditors' Court, Helga Berger, one of whom was accompanied by his current partner, Susanne Ries.
Hahn's office explains, according to Standard, that these meetings are “part of the regular exchange the commissioner has with representatives of institutions/organities dealing with activities within his portfolio field”. Representatives from other institutions also attended the meetings. Recording in the transparency registry was not necessary. /abcnews. al
