More than 70 people died in Kentucky on Friday evening storms, including dozens in a candle factory, and the death toll is expected to rise above 100.
Emergency teams are searching the factory's ruins in the town of Mayfield, which was directly hit.
More than 40 people have been rescued from about 110 in the factory, but Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear said it would be a miracle if anyone else was found alive.
The conditions facing the authorities are extremely challenging, with the police station in destroyed Mayfield and the equipment of damaged firefighters.
Tens of thousands of people in the state are also without energy and water, reports the BBC, broadcast Klankosova.tv.
At least 12 people died after tornadoes caused slaughter in other countries, including six in a Amazon warehouse in Illinois.
Governor Beshear has declared the state of emergency in Kentucky.
Other incidents in Kentucky included a train exit during extreme winds in Hopkins County
