Tirana today will be the host city for the upcoming Open Balkans meeting, which this time will include the European Commission, apart from the Atlantic Council.
The agenda has already become white with leaders of the three countries -- Albanian Prime Minister Edi Rama, Northern Macedonia Prime Minister Zoran Zaev and Serbia's president, Aleksandar Vuciq -- to formalise this initiative aimed at free movement of people, goods, services and capitals by signing five agreements.
According to the agenda, the meeting will be held at the Palace of Brigades.
The meeting of Rama, Zaev and Vuciq is expected at 09:05, while at 09:30 the launch of the plenary session with Prime Minister Edi Rama's opening address.
The discussions of leaders for the future of the “Balkan Open” will take place at 10:45, and at 11:30 the signing ceremony will take place.
At 12: 00 a.m., the Regional Agriculture and Co-operation Forum will be assembled.
There is a press conference predicted at 1: 00 a.m.
Last night, Serbian President Aleksandar Vuciq has posted a photo of the official dinner in Elbasan with prime ministers Edi Rama and Zoran Zaev. In addition to the photograph, he has written that <x0pen Balkans” is a very good initiative for citizens of all Balkan countries.
Yesterday in Tirana they protested the “Open Balkans initiative”. Albania's former prime minister, Sali Berisha, has declared that this starts and all its agreements will be cancelled once the Democratic Party is in power.
During his protest speech, he said this project is unacceptable and dangerous and conflicts with the Berlin process for the integration of countries in the region into the large European family.
Otherwise, the Open Balkans “” is the new initiative of regional co-operation between Albania, Serbia and Northern Macedonia. The new appointment of the initiative was released on July 21st, 2021, in Skopje at the conclusion of the work of the official part of the Economic Forum.
Rama, Zaev and Vuciq under the forum signed two memorandums and an interstate agreement aimed at facilitating movement of people and goods in order to further strengthen economic co-operation.
Prime Minister Albin Kurti has said Kosovo will not become part of the “Open Balkans initiative”.
Kosovo's “government is the Government of a sovereign state. We represent the people of Kosovo after the elections that we have won massively, as never before, and any co-operation that is conducted is conducted in line with our interests. We do not consider Kosovo's interest, with a Serbia denying war crimes, and does not recognise independence, become together and vote there by majority”, Kurti had declared.
