The Kosovo Government Information Office has made this known. The report reportedly both ministers will come to the media conference after signing the agreement.
“Justice Minister Albulen Haxhiu and Economy Minister Artane Rizvanolli hold media conference after signing a letter of intent with counterparts from the Kingdom of Denmark, as well as a joint statement as the pledge of both governments”, the report said.
Otherwise, Kosovo will rent 300 Denmark prison cells. From this agreement, Kosovo will benefit 210m euros.
But how many years will Denmark use these cells?
Based on the Justice Ministry announcement, this agreement is envisioned to find full implementation in the period of ten years.
“The signing of the letter of purpose, the expression of the will, between the two sides, will be achieved on Monday, or December 20th of this year after the visit of Danish ministers to the Republic of Kosovo. The deal is designed to find full implementation over the period of ten years”, MDUA has announced.
The ministry has pledged Denmark to release a correctional institution with the capacity for three hundred convicts.
The convicts who will be transferred to this institution will reportedly be high risk.
In compensation, Kosovo will benefit 210m euros. This money will be dedicated to “even capital investments, in particular to renewable energy”.
The justice ministry is pledging the release of a correctional institution with a capacity for three hundred convicts, who will be brought by the Kingdom of Denmark. The convicts who will be transferred to this institution will not be high risk. In compensation for this, the Republic of Kosovo benefits 210m euros, which will also be dedicated to capital investments, in particular for renewable energy.
The compensation will greatly benefit both the justice institutions and the Kosovo Correcting Service, which will affect the establishment of the overall quality and infrastructure of this service. We stress that Danish institutions have positively assessed the treatment of convicts in Kosovo and our capacities in this regard. This is the possibility towards close co-operation between our two states, deepening the strategic partnership between us”, the Ministry's announcement said.
Otherwise, Denmark's Justice Minister Nick Haekkerup has stated that this is being done in order to expand Denmark's prison capacities, Nyhyeder reports.
“We have a lack of over a thousand seats in the Danish Prison and Pre-prison Service by 2025. I'm happy to say that with a mutual agreement we're dealing with this case”.
Among other things, we agreed that work should be completed for borrowing cells in Kosovo to deport prisoners from third countries. We're extending Danish prisons for short and long term”, Haekkerup has declared.
