The humanitarian crisis in Afghanistan is growing. Various international actors have called for funding so that millions of citizens, who do not even have blankets for winter, can go through this period.
International donors, after numerous calls, agreed Saturday to provide $280m in aid to Afghanistan.
According to statistics from international bodies, more than half of the population face a lack of <x0 mic <x1 food> this winter.
The Fund for Reconstruction of Afghanistan will go to “to provide humanitarian assistance to the people of Afghanistan at this critical time of”, the World Bank said in a statement.
Funds will go towards U n NICEF and the World Food Programme, which “have access and logistics capacity on the ground in Afghanistan and will use these funds to provide health and food services directly to the Afghan people.”, World Bank officials said.
The United Nations has repeatedly warned that Afghanistan is on the verge of the world's worst humanitarian crisis, where some 22 million Afghans, or more than half of the country, face lack of <x0akut” of food in winter months, forcing millions to choose between migration and hunger. One of the main reasons is the international community's decision to freeze funds after taking power from the Taliban.
