The numbers of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention showed a nearly sixfold increase in Omitron infection rates in just one week, the AP writes.
Most of the country is even higher. Omitron is responsible for about 90 percent or more of new infections in New York area, southeast, industrial Midweek, and Pacific northwest.
The national rate suggests that more than 650 thousand Omitron infections have occurred in the US last week.
Since the end of June, the delta version was the main version that caused infections in the United States. By the end of November, more than 99.5 per cent of the coronarys were deltas, according to CDC data.
CDC Director Rochell Walensky said the new numbers reflect the kind of growth seen in other countries.
“These numbers are grim, but are not surprising,” she said.
