Over 1,000 people serve prison sentences in Kosovo, convicted of various criminal acts.

Of them, 96 prisoners have asked this year to be pardoned the remainder of the sentence.

“From the beginning of 2021, we have so far forwarded to the Office of the Secretary General of Justice for Further Process 96 requests”, says the Kosovo Correcting Service.

These demands go to the Presidency.

The chief of this office, Vjosa Osmani, is the one who enjoys the exclusive right to their admission or rejection.

So far she does not forgive any of the inmates who have sought release.

“Since now, we have not received confirmation that any” has been accepted, said by the Kosovo Correcting Service for “Front Online”.

Recognitions of justice have sometimes suggested that the right to forgive is misused by the presidents.

While, due to serious health conditions, 8 requests have been prosecuted in competent courts for suspending the execution of the sentence.
