AAK Parliamentary Group Chairman Besnik Tahiri has said the Kosovo government has no interest in partnership with the US. Speaking about the government's actions towards the US gas project, Tahiri said economic development, but also the country's overall stability depends on its access to energy resources, and long-term energy strategy that enables diversisation to meet energy needs for both the country's economy and environment.
Tahiri criticised the government for its actions, which is jeopardising stability with electricity supplies. According to him, the energy crisis that is knocking on our door as never before is proving the urgent need for an energy strategy to address the situation we are in and the steps that should be taken for a secure energy future.
Kosovo with energy production at its two thermal power plants, Kosovo A built in the 1970s and Kosovo B, built in the early 1980s, does not meet its energy needs, especially during the winter season. Energy stability is largely dependent on the work of Thermocentrals, given that alternative resources are lacking, and the development of capacities in renewable energy are in the initial phase of development. We are dependent on electricity import and that in crisis situations like this, when demand for energy on the international market has increased, causes severe electricity prices in the market, Tahiri added.
Tahiri argued that Kosovo should provide this energy to ensure economic development, national stability and reduce dependence on the ever-predictable international electricity market.
Kosovo should provide access to the gas network as soon as possible. With the extension of the Kosovo pipeline -- northern Macedonia -- where the use of American LNG would be allowed -- should be supported by all our capacities as an economic and national interest project, Tahiri said.
