The Russian Defence Ministry said in a statement quoted by Russian news agencies that the two soldiers' parachutes did not function properly “due to an unexpected strong wind”.
Despite the doctors' efforts, the two Russian military personnel did not survive the wounds sustained”, the statement said.
The victims were part of a group of 250 Russian parachutists who participated in joint maneuvers with the Belarusian Army on Friday, Euronews writes.
