World wildlife officials said the 60-year-old man was fishing on his property on the shore of a remote part of the McIvor River last Wednesday, writes The Guardian, broadcast the Express newspaper.
While the man was fishing, the crocodile came out of the water and attacked him by biting him on foot and began to draw him to the river. The man was caught for a branch and held.
The man used his pocket knife to stab the crocodile in the head several times before entering the water. Suddenly, the crocodile let go of the man, and he managed to get ashore.
He then drove to a local hospital and was later taken by helicopter to another location, where he is recovering from his injuries.
Environmental and Science Department experts spoke to the man Tuesday and found the injuries in line with the crocodile's attack. Officials said they would not try to catch the crocodile because of the remote area of property and lack of public access there.
