The World Health Organization (OBSH) has reported on a worrying “varian” - a new coronary mutation. This version was named Omitron and was first reported to WHO from South Africa on November 24th, the BBC writes.
Previously known as B.1.1.529, the first cases have also been identified in Belgium, Botswana, Hong Kong and Israel.
O BSH said today that early evidence suggested an increasing risk of reinfluence with this option, which is being described as a concern.
In a statement Friday, where the new version, O, has been officially appointed BSH said that the number of cases of this option appears to be increasing in almost all South African provinces.
This version has a large number of mutations, some of which are disturbing”, it says in a statement.
It is not unusual for a virus to change over time. A version goes into a disturbing version of how that mutation can affect such things as the transmatability or effectiveness of vaccines.
O The BSH has said it will take several weeks to understand the impact of the new version, as scientists are working to determine how transmitted this option is.
O The BSH has reacted to countries that are hastily imposing travel restrictions, saying they should look at a “approach based on risk and science”.
However, Great Britain, EU countries and Switzerland have temporarily banned flights from some South African countries.
