Authorities said that two survivors -- an Iraqi and a Somale -- were being treated for hypothermia and fatigue at the Calais hospital.
A criminal investigation has been opened by the prosecution in Lille, with four suspects such as “directly included” in the attempt to cross the border, reports The Guardian, translates Periscopi.
The troops were brought to the port of Calais by boat and helicopter at night, where volunteers and local immigrants had lit candles and placed plaques with the inscription “and how many others?”
The Public Prosecutor's Office in Leell has confirmed that 17 men, seven women, and three teenagers had died in this disaster.
There was no great wind, and the sea was calm at floodtime, increasing the suspicions of some media that boats with immigrants had either been hit by a ship or flooded because of their weight.
