The Netherlands will be put in a severe impasse, due to increased COVID-19 infection.
According to foreign media, the government has decided that cafes, restaurants, non-food shops, cinemas and theatres will be shut down between 5:00 and 5:00 local.
The restrictive measures went into effect hours after Health Minister Hugo de Jong announced that 13 passengers who arrived at the Shipol airport on Friday were positive for the new version.
He called on other passengers who arrived this week from South Africa to be tested as well.
De Jonge did not rule out the possibility of introducing even stronger measures that will apply during Christmas.
Earlier in the day, a strong presence of police was observed in the eastern city of Nijmenen, ahead of a banned protest against antiquity.
Police said they have arrested or expelled several people during raids on the streets into the city.
