The number of coronary cases in Europe has risen for the fifth week in a row, making it the only region in the world that continues to increase infection with Ovid-19, the World Health Organization (OBSH) reported today.
In a weekly report on pandemic, the UN health agency stresses that the number of new cases increased by 6.0 per cent in Europe, compared to the 18 per cent increase registered last week, the AP agency reported.
The weekly number of new infections in other regions has declined or remained nearly the same, the report says.
The biggest decline was recorded in the Middle East, where the number of new cases decreased by 12 percent and in Southeast Asia and Africa, where the number dropped by nine percent.
A total of three million new weekly cases have been reported worldwide, reports the report.
The number of deaths by COVID-19 worldwide increased by 8 percent, mainly because of Southeast Asia, where deaths increased by 50 percent.
The corruption infection rate was far from the highest in Europe, which reported some 192 new cases for 100,000 people, followed by North and South America, with about 72 new cases for 100,000 people.
While the Czech Republic, Poland and other countries in Central and Eastern Europe have reported the recent increase in infection, the continued increase in confirmed cases across Europe is largely due to increased infections in Britain, Russia, Turkey and Romania, the report shows.
O The BSH has also condemned rich countries for introducing strengthening doses, at a time when most poor countries have not yet administered vaccines for their most vulnerable population.
O BSH announced last week that about one million strengthening doses are given daily, which is about three times the number of vaccines given in poor countries.
