This agency has said in the report released on November 15th that if the latest air quality guidelines compiled by the World Health Organization are implemented, the number of victims can be halved.
In 2019 some 307,000 deaths were recorded as a result of the polluted air, until 2018, 346,000.
The decline in the number of victims compared to 2018 has been attributed to improving air quality on the European continent.
In 2019, Poland recorded 39,300 deaths at the highest per capita rate.
According to the European Agency for Environment, in the early 1990 ' s, the extremely small fragments of air entering the lungs have led to nearly one million premature deaths in the 27 countries of the European Union.
The European bloc has said it wants to reduce the death toll as a consequence of pollution, for at least 55 percent in 2030 compared with 2005 figures when 450,000 were registered.
If the figures drop at the current pace, the agency has estimated that the target will be reached in 2032.
