As Ahval says, the consulates that the Turkish Foreign Ministry annulled diplomatic identities is Sweden's honourary consul in Antalya, Britain in Mugla, Belgium and Austria in Smyrna, Romania in Iscenterun, Ethiopia, Konia, Dominican Republic, Belize in Istanbul and Lithuania in Nevsehir.
Honour Consumptions are usually free of charge and, in addition to strengthening trade and cultural ties, perform several basic consular duties. They do not enjoy <x0 diplomatic community” in full, but only a partial narrow immunity for their duties, the TCH reports.
In modern Turkey, there are currently about 120 honourary consoles, some of whom are very successful Turkish businessmen.
According to the DW's Turkish service, these councils were dismissed after a series of posts in which they criticised the Ankara government's policy. The charges that social media posts played a role in the decision come at a time when social media users in Turkey regularly face harassment, censorship and arrests for critical remarks against the Turkish president and his government.
