Israeli Prime Minister Naphtali Bennett has held a telephone conversation with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, the first contact since 2013, according to Israel's prime minister's office. Bennett thanked Erdogan for his help in releasing the couple, the Israeli prime minister's office said in a statement.
After the couple's release, the Turkish president also had a telephone conversation with Israeli counterpart Isaac Herzeg, the Turkish presidency said, referring to a relatively rare contact between the two countries, whose relations are strained.
Mordy and Natalie O'Connor were arrested last week after photographing Erdogan's residence and being charged with “political and militaryspiration”.
