The most alarming situation is in the central and eastern regions of the European continent, due to the spread of the Delta version.
Infections are still on the rise in 55 out of 240 countries, where Russia, Ukraine and Greece are registering record infections since the launch of the pandemic, Reuters news agency reports.
More than half of all new infections reported worldwide are from European countries.
The rise in cases in Eastern Europe is largely attributed to extremely low vaccine rates in the region. High figures are also in Germany, where authorities call it the Indecision of the unexcused. Unlike some other European countries, this country has rejected mandatory vaculation for each employee.
Experts are optimistic that many countries in the world have left the worst behind, thanks to vaccines and natural immunity, although they warn that cold weather and holiday events can again increase cases.
