He made these comments at the regular meeting with journalists questioned about the status of Afghan citizens who are sheltered in Kosovo.
“As part of the ongoing process of verification”, he said, some of those whose cases needed additional processing have been moved to Liya camp, located at Camp Bondsteel in Kosovo, where the inter-institutional teams are working there to complete the verification of their admission to the United States, or to a third location<3>.
Over a thousand and 300 Afghan citizens fled to Kosovo since the end of August, as part of international efforts to rescue them from violence in Afghanistan. Most of them are women, children and elders, family of contractors who have worked with the United States-led coalition in Afghanistan.
Mr. Price reaffirmed gratitude for the Kosovo government while underlining that all necessary efforts are being made to ensure a safe and comfortable environment in American troops camp Bondsteel, where the shelterers are located while continuing their verification.
Nearly half of those sheltered in Kosovo have already left, with four flights at different times towards the United States.
