Alt has said that Kosovo has already agreed in 2013 on the establishment of the Execution of Grandma-autonoms for the Serb minority, which has been ratified by majority in the Kosovo Assembly as well.
Serbia and Kosovo have already agreed in 2013 to establish the semi-autonom Communist Association for the Serb minority, which has been ratified by 2/3 in the Kosovo Parliament. It is legitimate to question whether this model is favourable for the legitimacy of the country's institutions and belief among the” municipalities, Alt said.
On the other hand, she has said that to prevent a scenario similar to that of Republika Srpska in northern Kosovo, it would be important for the state of Kosovo to take more responsibility for its Serbian citizens.
“To prevent a scenario similar to that in Republika Srpska in northern Kosovo, it would be important for the state of Kosovo to take on more responsibility for its Serbian citizens, for example in important social areas such as health and education, which are currently treated mainly by the so-called “parallel”. If Kosovo sees this as an opportunity, it may also be able to negotiate with more conveniences for implementing the Association of Serb-based municipalities instead of increasing tensions and divisions as a result of lack of progress in implementing Association. Long-term ties with the central government in Pristina will also be important in this context”, Alt has said.
Bundestag's MP has spoken even about the possibility of mutual recognition between Kosovo and Serbia as a product of a final agreement between the two sides, where she has said such a thing seems impossible at the moment given Serbian President Alexander Vuciq's stances.
Alt has said that Kosovo must work to be recognised eventually as a state by all European Union states, but that there is currently no unity within the EU on this issue.
