Serbia's prime minister, Ana Brnabiq, said today that Kosovo “has nothing to ask for in U NESTO and that its membership is not a topic and dares not be the subject”.
After the panel in the plenary debate of session 41 of the U General Assembly NESTO in Paris, Brnabyq said U NESTO is not the place where there is room to talk about whether Kosovo should be a member of that organisation.
When I say depoliticization, everyone knows what it means. U General Director NESTO Audrey Azul said it would not depoliticise during its mandate,” added Brnabiq.
Asked whether Albanian Prime Minister Edi Rama and Kosovo Prime Minister Albin Kurti have used their presence at the Paris Peace Forum to lobby for Kosovo membership in U NCO, Brnabiq said he probably did it and that he considered Kurt.
I don't think Rama has done it, I think they do it publicly because of domestic politics and popularity, which is not correct. In any case, if you ask me, I don't think there's anything of that,” she said.
Brnabic adds it may be harder when the United States returns to membership in the U NESTO and emphasises that it is up to Serbia to work actively on this and insist on depoliticisation.
“If something like that were to happen, it would open Pandora's box and mean that U NESCO is dealing with several other issues and the people that are in the U today. NESTO knows this”, she said.
