British MP: The Bosnia fall is Putin's ambition we must act immediately

Alicia Kearns, deputy of the British Parliament, said Western values are under attack and that Russia, among other things, wants to weaken NATO tearing down Bosnia and Herzegovina. The West is under attack every day. Our values of individual freedom, speech and trust, as well as self-determination and democracy, are at risk of being a generation away from extinction”, she said in an authorial text for the Daily Express.
Kearns points out that in Africa and Asia, China is funding large infrastructure projects that make poor countries dependent on the communist regime, while Russia is gathering tens of thousands of soldiers on the Ukrainian border.
And in a corner of Europe, a country to which we have a unique historical task, is on the verge of collapse: Bosnia. Do not doubt, failed Bosnia is Putin's ambition, because conflict and instability in our narrow neighbourhood would lead to a disorganized NATO and a empowered Putin”, Kearns claims.
He adds that BiH's very existence is a delicate act of balance, and now Putin is trying to destroy the balance mentioned for the sake of his interests.
“early this year, outgoing High Representative Valentin Inzko criminalised the denial and legalisation of genocide in the country. This created a problem for Putin's doll in the region, Bosnian Serb leader Milorad Dodik,”, adding that he regularly denied the Srebrenica genocide. .
“encouraged by his supporters, Dodik threatened to draw Bosnian Serbs from most state institutions. When I last spoke to the Bosnian ambassador, his message was clear: Bosnia is on the verge of dissolution and conflict. Schmidt said the same thing at UN”, writes Kearns.
Great Britain, Kearns points out, should admit that there is a problem and that it is up to them to maintain the hard - earned peace.
Not only for British soldiers who fought there, including some of my colleagues in the Low Room and many of my electors in Rutland and Melton Billon, but also for the memory of all those who were killed and who live today with terrible memories of hatred and slaughter”, she adds.
Kearns says Putin is taking advantage of the current situation and that Britain should act.
“We must increase Britain's presence (and all NATO members) at NATO headquarters in Sarajevo and conduct joint exercises throughout the Balkans. We should also review sanctions against those who systematically undermine the Dayton Agreement and formulate an intergovernmental strategy for preventing atrocities led by the new Centre for Crime to show the important role it may have. Russia and China as well as important domestic actors are pushing a cocktail of divisions and hatred throughout Bosnia and Serbia,” said Kearns.
She goes on to say that the British government is still working, since the start of an initiative to discuss BiH at a NATO ministerial meeting next week and to visit the region in the coming weeks and engagement with Schmidt and ties with allies around the world.
For two weeks I have secured a parliamentary debate on the difficult situation in Bosnia. I hope our voices spread to the Balkans and Russia, showing the determination of our elected representatives to maintain peace and prevent new bloodshed. We owe it to the people of Bosnia, to survivors of war and genocide and to our veterans whose memories in Bosnia are painful. We have to stand firm behind this obligation and we have to do this now,” Ends Kearns.
