The fire was reported shortly after 10:20 a.m. with local clocks on the 10th floor of the 49th tower, located a few blocks from the Rockefeller Center.
According to local media, the building under construction is scheduled to accommodate the new Rio Manhattan Plaza Times Square hotel.
A spokesman for the New York Fire Department said that about 78 firefighters responded to the accident and spent almost an hour fighting the flames before putting the fire under control.
