In a statement, the White House said that as part of a routine medical visit, the president performed a coloscope during which he would remain unconscious for a short time because of his anesthesia. The constitution requires that he officially transfer competencies to Vice President Kamala Harris.
At a press conference Friday, White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki said the president called Mrs. Harris about 11:35 local time to let her know that the visit was over and that she was in good mood and ready to take office.
Ms. Psaki said the medical team was preparing a written summary of the president's health, which will be released to the media later on Friday.
This is the first regular medical visit Mr. Biden makes to the president's office. The visit was conducted at the Walter Reed National Military Medical Center, located in Bethesda, in Maryland State.
