Kosovo's first former ambassador after independence in the United States has shown in this interview why Kosovo is left out of the US Democracy Summit.
Spahiu has said that an invitation from the United States has been an unpleasant surprise, adding that it is a pity our country has not been invited to the Democracy Summit.
The “initially was a bad surprise, because the United States has not only invited us to such arrangements in the past but has also influenced other states since we have not been invited to provide an invitation to Kosovo. It's a pity we haven't been invited, because it looks like the U.S. reports are unfortunately at the lowest point. Given that we are a US creature, and we have had firm support in all phases of development in Kosovo, including the pre-war period where the US played a key role in caring for the people of Kosovo at a time when we were almost in a state of hopelessness, under Serbian regime, under tremendous pressure, etc.
But even during the post-war period and after Kosovo's declaration of independence, The U.S. has been with us every step. Now we've reached a point where we're no longer impressed with”, Spahiu's expression.
Speaking to Kosovo reports, the US, Spahiu stressed that the invitation to Sam is alarming for reports, counting three reasons why things have come to this point.
There are several factors, we've seen some highly mature movements of the Government, such as the gas project, which is in US geostrategic interest and we showed a ignoring, not only that we accepted it but that we passed it very quickly. The second one, there is a certain kind of notly willing to engage in the dialogue process more constructively.
The third is the reluctance to accept Donald Trump's agreement between the two countries, which was in Washington that was signed by the American side and by both sides who were there. And our choice to have a subtle admission of that deal's” pointer, he's got a point at it.
The former ambassador stated that Kosovo does not have the luxury of selecting which provisions of the agreement reached in Washington would be implemented, regardless of the agreement being reached by a previous government.
Despite the situation created, Spahiu estimates the US will not retaliate in the future against Kosovo, adding further that Kosovo leaders must find ways to regulate the reports.
I don't think it's something that we can retaliate in the future, if we sound the alarm and we hear the alarm ring, and we put the reports on the right tracks. Our leaders have to find ways to organise a US summit with leaders and negotiate barriers to”, he stated.
Spahiu in the interview has considered the absence of ambassadors to different states in the world unwarranted. He has also commented on the situation in the region, and tensions in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
