US allocates $2.5m additional emergency Kosovo assistance to COVID-19

This assistance will provide comprehensive support in realising anti-imocation COVID-19 and will strengthen the health system as a whole.
This assistance is a generous donation from the American people to the people of Kosovo. It's not vaccines like this that will stop the virus, but it's vaccine. So put on your masks, twist your sleeves, and do what is needed to ensure that both you and your loved ones are protected. The United States remains committed to fighting this insidious virus along with our partners, which means you. jointly, we can fight this virus and stop the spread of COVID-19,” said U Mission Director AID in Kosovo, Zeinah Salahi.
This extra aid, which will be implemented through the U NICEF, built on the basis of more than $2.6m in aid to COVID-19 donated to Kosovo via U AID during pandemic.
Since Kosovo confirmed its first case with COVID-19, USAID has worked with first-line healthcare workers and communities to slow the spread, to care for the affected and provide the equipment needed to fight COVID-19.
Last year, USAID distributed 249 hygienic sets at health centres, 7,750 sets of sanitation for households, and 2,400 toilet packages for mothers and babies in all 38 municipalities in Kosovo. At the beginning of the school year, USAID also donated toilet sets to 660 elementary and high schools.
In addition, the United States donated 50 new, unused respiratories as part of a support package that included accompanying respiratory equipment, installation, guarantees, software and online web service plans.
The United States sent laboratory testing equipment and thermal scanners for deployment of Kosovo border crossings terminals, including Pristina Airport and four land border crossings.
Finally, USAID warned a 1 million-dollar US partnership with the UNICEF Office in Kosovo in support of efforts being made in public information in Kosovo concerning prevention and vaccine against COVID-19, and on behalf of the US government, facilitated the distribution of 538,,200 doses of Pfizer vaccine.
The US government, through USAID, has invested over $10m in Kosovo health aid over the past 20 years.
