The prime minister of the Republic of Kosovo, Albin Kurti, has expressed regret and strongly condemned the recent act of discrimination against the Roma community, Ashkali and Egypt, which according to reports, some gastronomy locals have refused to serve these communities.
In the speech given at the Antigipsism Summit, Prime Minister Kurti also strongly condemned the physical violence that was broadcast against these communities in recent days.
These are acts punishable by both our laws and our conscience. It is neither in our culture nor in our history to be discriminating, nor less disfellowshipped,” said the prime minister, adding that citizens of every ethnicity, community and race are first equal citizens of our Republic.
The prime minister said he is equally committed to all citizens of the Republic, and especially to those who are poorer because, as he said, I am also a social-democrat, and as a social Democrat, the progress and development of our society measured, not on how well those who have the most are living, but those who have the least.
He added how social-democratic development is measured with the inclusion and quality of education they receive not only the privileged part of society, but the most discriminated part of it.
In this regard, he singled out the announcement of the stock exchange competition for high school students for the Roma, Ashkali and Egyptian communities for the 2021/2022 school year, aimed at including these students in higher secondary education in public schools and ensuring initiatives to reduce drop school.
Also, we aim at increasing the number of students who will pursue higher secondary education through financial support with scholarships, as well as raising the students' success by offering them financial support. The stock exchanges' height will be 300 euros for a curriculum”, Prime Minister Kurti said. The summit on Antigypsism is organised by the organisation Terre des hommes, representation in Kosovo, in collaboration with partner organisations Voice of Rome, Ashkali and Egyptans and HEKS Foundation under the “Social Justice for Roma, Ashkali and Egyptians.
