Thaci's provisional release, Kosovo police respond to special

The defence of Hashim Thaci, lawyer Gregory W. Kehoe has asked for instructions from Prosecution Court Nicolas Guillou about steps to follow over Thaci's and others' provisional release request. At the conference on the performance of the case against Thaci and others, lawyer Kehoe has said there is still a lot of time until the trial starts, so he has asked for instructions on which path to proceed with the case of parole.

He has stressed that there is already an answer by the Kosovo Police, which is in the process of translating.

I'd like to ask you which way to go as far as the search for temporary release is concerned. We have a response from the police that's in the process of translating, we have a process that you know to what point it went, so we want to ask your opinion about what way to track us looking for their temporary release because there seems to be plenty of time until the trial process starts”, Thaci's defense has said.

But Judge Guillou has said that such a case can be written down since today's conference is not in the order of day.

In the second part of the conference, which was held in the Specialised Chambers at The Hague, the parties have discussed the extraction of the excusing material for which defence has said some of this material has not been handed over.

Lawyer Gregory W. Kehoe has asked the court to ask if he has issued all the witness statements he has received.

Lawyer: It's been given excusing information, but the prosecution has not informed the defense.

These four men are in prison and the analysis according to the 103rd rule continues we have information that excusing information has been provided since before and we haven't seen it, we haven't seen these documents, and there must be a reason why this” happened, Thaci's lawyer said.

According to him, such information was provided several years ago but has not been disclosed about protection.

Even according to Kadri Wessel's lawyer, Ben Emmerson, there are many people who have given excusing statements but they have never been issued.

Emmerson: Many people have given excusing statements to the prosecution

You know there are a lot of people who have given excusing statements to the prosecution through various means that are clearly and undisputedly excused and never issued to us”, Emmerson said.

And prosecutor Claire Lawson said I couldn't give any confirmation because the excusing examination was not over, and according to her, the work is continuing.

She has said that in the following week, other packages are expected to be issued, and there are no safeguard clauses, according to her.

As regards the course of investigations, lawyers have declared that SPS should hand over the material to the whole so that they can be prepared with investigations.

According to them, 70% of the SPS documents were given only by the latest conference.

The upcoming conference on the performance of the issue towards Thaci and others will be held on 15 December.

The incident against Hashim Thaci, Kadri Veselin, Rexhep Selimi and Jakup Krasniqi, over the war crimes claim, has been confirmed on 26 October 2020, while in their first appearances in the Specialised Chambers in The Hague they have been declared innocent.

Thaci and others are being held at The Hague detention centre from November 2020.
