US State Department spokesman Ned Price has welcomed EU High Representative for Foreign Policy Josep Borrell's statement to Western Balkan states.
Borrell at the Brdo summit in Slovenia has said that the EU door to the six Western Balkan countries has remained open, despite recent reports in several world credit media that the EU is fed up with continuing tensions in the Balkans and may not accept these countries at all.
We welcome the EU Declaration for the Western Balkans. Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Kosovo, Montenegro, Northern Macedonia and Serbia continue to demonstrate their commitment to reform. It is vital to keep the EU door open for them”, Ned Price wrote in his Twitter account.
Borrell, meanwhile, said that the goal of this summit was to send the signal that the enlargement process is continuing as he has said a few more words for the Kosovo-Serbia dialogue.
“at this meeting we need to give a reliable signal to continue the enlargement process, but this is a two-way path. On the one hand, candidates must continue reforms and put aside their differences. For our part, the Member States of the European Union and institutions must fulfil their commitments. We will also talk particularly about security and foreign affairs issues. We must harmonise our foreign policy, because to face common challenges, we need more co-ordination”, he said.
For Serbia and Kosovo, I am happy to see that the last few days have overcome some difficulties at the border, in northern Kosovo, and now we have to continue the dialogue process in order to solve the problems between candidate countries. On the road to Europe, enlargement requires that they put aside their differences and continue with reforms. But we must give him a reliable continuation of the enlargement process”, Borrell concluded.
