With the motto “Rally for her justice”, it will be protested for the senbilisation of international opinion to investigate the war crimes the Serbian government committed during 1991-2001.
Shortly before the start of the rally, Kosovo MP Vasfije Krasniqi-Goodman tells Kosovo that she expects this gathering to have great influence and justice for all victims.
We aim to have justice. This gathering has great meaning for us victims, we are victims of Kosovo attending. But also Croatia and Bosnia. It's the second time this rally is being held at the Serbian consulate in New York. The initiative is Mark Jones, New York City counselor. We hope to bring awareness to the world for the crimes Serbia has committed”, Krasniqi said.
Vasfija is the first woman to have publicly confessed the horror experienced by Serbian criminals as 16 years old. In addition to this gathering, there will be meetings with the US Senate and Congress to address the war crimes issue committed by Serbia.
At the gathering where justice will be sought before the Serbian consulate will also be attended by Shyhrete Tahire '%Suliman, who two years ago has publicly handed over criminal speculation to the Special Prosecutor to seek justice for what happened to him.
The second woman, who is publicly presented, says this gathering has special significance for victims.
It's a very good shot, and I thanked everyone for supporting us. Most of the Mark Gjonaj, it's very important for victims of”, she says shortly before the start of this rally.
Feride Rushiti, who is director of the Kosovar Centre for the rehabilitation of Torture Survivors, has attended the rally held two years ago. It says of Kosovo, that the pressure of international mechanisms to investigate genocide is targeted by this initiative.
“We protested and vocally demanded that sexual violence crimes be punished and the Serbian state take on its responsibilities in relation to war crimes, particularly Serbian crimes. The consulate's window opened as no living man was seen or a reaction from this institution present in New York. The purpose of this protest this time is to mobilise the inevitable demand of all sexual victims in the former Yugoslavia, including Kosovo, Bosnia and Herzegovina and Croatia, is to also pressure international mechanisms”, Rushiti said.
War crimes have remained unpunished, while victims even after two decades are living with past experiences.
“has particular significance for the fact that crimes of sexual violence have remained unpunished and, as a result, survivors of the sex violence of war still fear freedom and still suffer from the past. They may still be accused and feel guilty. This movement and the masse of all Albanians, as well as from Bosnia and Herzegovina and Croatia, I think it should pressure Serbia's administration to take over all possible mechanisms and to impose justice in the country”, Rushiti said.
Four months ago, for the first time in Kosovo has been sentenced to 10 years in prison, Zoran Vukotic. The same is accused of committing sexual violence crime during the Kosovo war. About 20,000 women and men from Kosovo have been sexually violated by Serbian police forces. Even after more than two decades, there is no justice for the victims who experienced this horror.
