The commission's suggestion for foreign relations and intelligence commission in the Senate would mark sharp passage into the ongoing dispute over embassy staff at the time of tensions between Washington and Moscow, Reuters reported, broadcast the Express.
Russia in August banned the United States Embassy in Moscow from committing or contracting Russian or third staff, except for the guards, forcing the embassy to remove 182 workers and dozens of contractors, the State Department said.
Senators said this means that there are only about 100 American diplomats in Russia, while in the United States there are 400 Russian diplomats.
This explosion in diplomatic representation is unacceptable. Therefore, Russia must issue enough visas to achieve equality between the number of American diplomats serving in Russia and the number of Russian diplomats serving in the US”, said the American senators' letter sent to President Biden.
If Moscow does not do that, senators said the American president should begin the expulsion of 300 Russian diplomats.
