Rama criticises EU for not liberalising Kosovo citizens

Albania's Prime Minister Edi Rama has expressed criticism at the EU-Western Balkans summit in Brdo, Slovenia, due to the failure to lift the visa regime for Kosovo citizens. He has said during his speech that despite the EU's publicly declaring that Kosovo has met the conditions for abolishing visas, such a thing is not yet happening.
However, what happens to the existence of 2 million Kosovo citizens still closed within their country after several years that the country achieved full compatibility for visa liberalisation. Isn't it surreal that they can travel freely outside their country under a brutal regime removed with the help of US and EU bombings and now their deliverers keep them locked up? The EU has given visa liberalisation to 52 million people outside the future Union, and not only before, but also after the EU itself publicly declared that Kosovo fulfilled all technical criteria and even the entirely ad hoc criteria of border resolution with Montenegro”, Rama said.
Rama has already ironic the delay in opening negotiations on the part of the EU, comparing the word enlargement with a shy echo of the past.
According to Rama, it is very painful for Albanians to hear from the EU again and again that Albania has done homework, but unfortunately the EU they worship is unable to fulfill its promises.
Albanian Prime Minister stressed in front of EU and Western Balkan leaders that Albania has done its homework, but unfortunately the EU they worship is unable to fulfil its promises.
He has considered a deadlock plot Bulgaria has made for northern Macedonia, citing it is not the only one.
“I regret I have lost confidence that Bulgaria will be able to overcome the stalemate soon, because they seem blocked by the fire that lit up to heat up their voters with fire from the glorious past. For such voters, it cannot be important that they have taken two states hostage, which in all opinions are innocent and compatible. But it should be important for the EU to lose its face to the people of six Western Balkan countries. So far I can hope that this meaningless impasse will not become a recurring event”, Rama said.
Rama has also cited points in which the EU should support Albania and the Western Balkans.
“S first, the EU can show it says what it means and means what it says, supporting the Western Balkans economically through the Economic and Investment Plan. Second, the EU can help us support our young people by creating integration mechanisms in its higher education network to help us keep the best and the brightest. Third, the EU can help us by fully supporting our initiative for the Open Balkans, which is a co-ordinated effort by Albania, Northern Macedonia and Serbia to prevent the visionary Berlin Process from becoming a shadow of it and turn into an annual summit tour of Europe that repeats it 18 years ago without producing tangible results,” said Rama.
Rama concluded his speech with irony to the EU, saying it agrees with the summit's final declaration, even though no one asked us about the opinion of the Western Balkans during its drafting.
