Numerous reactions after Borrell rebuked Kosovo for action in the north

The European Union's High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Josep Borrell, has berated Kosovo yesterday for the police action against smuggling that took place in four regions of the country, including the north. Borrell's statement has sparked numerous reactions. Borrell said violent incidents in the north should [...]

Borrell said violent incidents in the north should be stopped immediately. He called the action a unilateral and uncoordinated police.

Furthermore, Borrell said all open issues between Kosovo and Serbia should be addressed through dialogue mediated by the EU.

Violent “Incidents in northern Kosovo must stop immediately. The unilateral and uncoordinated shares that endanger stability are unacceptable. All open issues must be addressed through EU-attended dialogue. We are in contact with Belgrade and Pristina”, Borrell wrote in Titter.

The rapporteur for Kosovo in the European Parliament, Violet von Cremon, has responded to this statement, which has said he must criticise states where rule of law is not being implemented and that the police daily shares do not belong to dialogue.

“Please criticise states where rule of law is not implemented. The EU must support the states that fight organised crime and corruption. State institutions doing their job deserve our full respect. The dialogue helped by the EU has nothing to do with the daily operations of the Police”, wrote Von Croamon in Titter.

Even the former ambassador of the Netherlands to Kosovo, Robert Bosch, has reacted to the European Union's high representative for Foreign Policy and Security.

Bosch, has said that the EU is showing once again its “disability” regarding Kosovo, the World follows today.

According to him, Borrell has had to be acquainted with the reality that Kosovo's north is headed by the criminal gang.

The EU again showed its inability with regard to Kosovo. Borrell de facto, urging police not to go against smugglers, if it had taken the effort to get acquainted with reality in northern Kosovo, it would have known that the north is run by criminal gangs and is never too early to come against them. So even if it's a response to violence, he should commend it”, wrote the former ambassador in a Facebook post.

Meanwhile, Interior Affairs Minister Xhelal Svecla said such shares in Kosovo are daily.

And as for Borrell, such shares against smuggling and tax evasion, we have ready every day. Yesterday, Kosovo police have had an extremely successful action where a counterfeiter of various bills with 18 different fake seals has been arrested. His nationality is Turkish. Now if we had to call someone or coordinate with someone for our action yesterday. The action has been a puff against smuggling, which is a plague flowing in finance every day for the state and the poor citizens of Kosovo”, he has said.

Furthermore, he said it is the wrong approach to think that we should co-operate with Belgrade to combat crime and smuggling.

If someone thinks we have to coordinate with Belgrade to hit those that Belgrade is protecting in crime, then I think it's a wrong approach”, he said.

University professor Blerim Latifi has described Borrell's statement as urgent and meaningless.

Latifi has said Borrell's statement was stimulating for Serbia's president, Aleksandar Vucinq, who later went to Serbia's Army base in Rashka to make promotional statements.

Borrell's “Declaration is urgent and meaningless. He rushed. He named it ethnic action. Looks like the vucin was promoted by him. He went to his troops in Rashka and then made rhetorical promotional statements. Apparently there was an operation against smuggling”, he said.

Latif had said that police action against smuggling cannot be maintained just because it is an election time.

Police must not fight crime and smuggling in the north in times of choice! Because the election results are affected. Police operations deadlines in the north must not comply with electoral deadlines! So logically it means that crime and smuggling can flourish free there every time we have elections”, he said.

Opinionist Yusuf Thaci has asked Borell why he did not react to the attacks on police and journalists.

There was no Mr. Borell and the EU told me about the attacks on journalists and police that were attacked while they were doing their job? ! Indeed, Mr. Borell”, he wrote.

Thaci has also asked whether the police to conduct their action should ask criminals involved in smuggling.

“For police shares in the function of combating ordiner crime and smuggling, shares which are authorised by prosecution and courts, should you co-ordinate with the EU and with Serbia? Or should he be granted permission by the criminals involved? Will they tell me, according to Mr. Borell, who, if you are a Serb and you live in northern Kosovo, does not do or can't be prosecuted for smuggled crime”, he wrote.

Otherwise, as a result of Serb resistance, shooting and punching police, some police members have suffered bodily injuries and have been sent to the Mitrovica Hospital for medical treatment.

Police reported on six injured police officials, of them five Albanian national and one of the Serbian nationals. Also, one of the persons involved in the attack on police officials has been injured.

Journalists and cameramen who have gone to report developments there have also been attacked during this action. Three hand bombs have been thrown toward them.

Such tools have been used by Kosovo police, through a report to the media.

According to police, citizens there have gathered, created roadblocks
