After 13 days of blockades, the situation in the north has been intensified with the unblocking of roads. The first point of the Agreement in Brussels on license plates has been implemented. The first point of the agreement between Kosovo and Serbia in Brussels, envisioned as early as 8:00am on October 2nd, the removal of barricades from roads to send to the two Jarinje and Brnjak border points, KFOR's deployment to the positions of Kosovo special units and the withdrawal of the latter. This is the agreement being implemented today.
The other two points left to apply are:
From October 4th, it will begin to implement the clinging card regime temporarily, instead of removing vehicle plates registered in Kosovo and Serbia, until a permanent solution is found.
On 21 October, a team consisting of European Union, Pristina and Belgrade officials will begin working to find a permanent solution. Within six months, from the start of the first meeting, the so-called Workgroup will present the findings for a permanent solution to the format of high-level dialogue
Today the heavy roads in the north began to flee. A major delay appeared in Jarinje, where local Serbs initially freed only one lane of the road.
After that, Kosovo police refused to withdraw until all means are removed from the street, and with them even the tents located across the street. The police request was met by protesters at noon, and thus the unblocked route enabled police withdrawal after 13 days of stay there.
Statement of the situation has welcomed The Charger at the US Embassy in Kosovo, Nicholas Giacobe.
He said he expects normality at the border to be restored.
Good “Progress from Kosovo and Serbia following implementation of the EU-brokered agreement at the border. KFOR's temporary presence, for two weeks we expect the functioning of the border to return to normal. The time to move forward at this moment and seriously restore the” dialogue, he wrote.
