Stress, fear, restrictions in motion, and the strong emotions the whole world faced since the outbreak of the COVID-19 virus endanger citizens' mental health. That the consequences may be long-term, says Mental Health Centre director Sami Rexhepi.

Rexhepi in an interview for Kosova Prees, says that because of the entire situation caused by the pandemic, there will be even more problems of mental consequences in the future.

“The consequences of COVID-19 pandemic are much more than if we are defined in one aspect, whether we take physical health or if we take the losses that have occurred, jobs, and what has been even more serious, the loss of family members. All of these make up a whole that cannot be expressed only by number. What worries me the most, though, is that there will be more problems of future mental consequences. I am especially highlighting it in terms of mental health will have significant consequences”, he says.

He points out that the effects of pandemic will all suffer without exception.

“on mental health normally affecting the individual's socioeconomic appendix. A disorder of mental health balance and physical health certainly results from an individual malfunction. When an individual is not functional, he cannot fully accomplish and fully accomplish himself even at his workplace. It means we will be faced with future problems as a result. They will not be able to get back to work and their duties immediately all individuals, all those who have contracted the disease, whether they have not been affected by the disease themselves, but the effects of mental health will be experienced by everyone”, he says.

What may be more problematic, according to neuroskiller Sami Rexhepi, is the possibility of presenting post-traumatic disorder, since it says there is chronic character.

We've had an undeclared war with an invisible enemy who was present for us individually in every country. And, living with such pressure for over a year and a half and with the fact that there's been all the new stress, I'd like there's not to be post-traumatic stress disorders because there's a chronic character that disorder. Then it is the part where we have often missed out on even the stress of grieving over the loss of members. There's been new stresses the whole time, he points out.

It also speaks of situations Kosovo citizens faced during the pandemic period.

The initial total closure, the lack of vaccines, the new wave of the virus, then the disinformations following the arrival of the vaccine are some of the factors that, according to him, will weigh even more mental health.

All of this has contributed to the individual's weightier mental health... People who are going to be affected by post-traumatic stress, this is a disorder that has chronic character, much will depend on the power that each individual has, will be individual. Can't talk for days, for month, this should be an indicator for much larger mobilization for those people to help me out of”, he adds.

Rexhepi says that without a balance of mental and physical health, people cannot be functional for a healthy society, for which to appeal institutions to be aware of the importance of institutionalising this area.

The first <x0) position here is the family itself, which should be more supportive and supportive with family members, because someone has been punished more, someone less. The family is the location of positive energy absorption, so we need to be careful about strengthening the family. Then comes the empowerment of the social environment that unfortunately with these restrictions, not only are we limited but we've also had enough trauma... Mental health policy needs to be changed. Fortunately, we have an entire army of psychologists, we don't miss cadres, we lack their functioning, and the actual organization, and that's the lack of policies”, says the neuropsychiatre.
