Germany's Chancellor Angela Merkel spoke about the meeting she had with Kosovo Prime Minister Albin Kurti and Serbia's president, Aleksandar Vuciq, in which she participated along with French President Emmanuel Macron.
Merkel said she spoke with Kurti and Vuciqi about resolving the problem, stressing that the Berlin Process had a positive effect on regional co-operation in the Balkans.
The “is difficult, but there is little progress”, Merkel said.
The German Chancellor indicated that participants at the EU-Western Balkans summit agreed that the Western Balkan countries belong to Europe, but she said she did not support giving these a specific date for their EU accession.
“I have not supported the idea of giving the Western Balkan countries a specific date for their accession to the European Union”, Merkel said at the EU-Western Balkans summit in Brdo in Slovenia, Reuters reports.
I really don't believe in setting a date, but I do believe in fulfilling our promises. After the conditions are met, accession can be realised”, Merkel told reporters after the summit.
She cited the example of Montenegro, which has many open chapters, saying it could close them in a few years.
Kosovo Prime Minister Albin Kurti indicated that with German Chancellor Angela Merkel, France's president, Emmanuel Macron and Serbia's resident Aleksandar Vuciq spoke about the Berlin Process; free movement; and recognition of diplomas.
Meanwhile, Vuciq, after the meeting, stressed the Association of Serb majority municipalities, which, according to him, will be a topic of discussion at the next meeting.
