Macedonian police have arrested four people suspected of vote buying for local elections, to be held on Sunday, October 17th.
The Ministry of Internal Affairs has announced that people were arrested Saturday in Skopje's Dracevo neighbourhood, while distributing money to people in exchange for the vote.
In this case, police have seized 121 thousand denars (2 thousand euros) and 250 euros.
The detained “are accused of criminal acts of election and voting. The case has been handed over to the public prosecutor for proceedings to further”, said the MPB report.
Meanwhile, police have announced the arrest of another person in the town of Prilep for threatening a mayoral candidate.
The 21-year-old detainee in emergency procedure has been sentenced to eight days in prison.
On Saturday, the right to vote has been exploited by prisoners, elderly people with chronic illness, disabled persons, and coronary infected.
In Sunday's elections, Northern Macedonia elects mayors of 80 municipal municipalities and councils, as well as the mayor of Skopje, which is a special unit of local government.
There are 10,653 candidates of political parties, coalitions, and independent candidates in the race.
Election rights have 1,824,863 citizens.
The main race takes place between two political blocs, the LSDM and the ruling DUI, and opposition V parties. MRO- DPMNE, Alliance for Albanians and Alternatives.
