Lumez seeks protection of election process integrity

Chief State Prosecutor Aleksander Lumezi has kept the college with the chief prosecutor's prosecutors, chief Special Prosecutor's Prosecutor, Prosecutor's Prosecutor's Prosecutor for Appeals, as well as the Kosovo Prosecutorial Council chairman, whom he has addressed cases of interest in the function of rule of law in the Republic of Kosovo.

In the case of holding the 17 October 2021 local elections, Chief Prosecutor Lumezi has called on all chief prosecutors and prosecutors to maximum commitment in order and protect the integrity of the election process.

“As chief state prosecutor I expect that through quick and full investigations, with maximum seriousness and time to assess any information, criminal rowing or any other indices for performing criminal acts that violate the election process, ensuring that all citizens have the opportunity to express their free will through a democratic, fair process and Western standards and values”, the State Chief Prosecutor has said.

During this meeting special importance has been given to the application of the law for expanded competencies for the seizure of property acquired by criminal work, where Chief Prosecutor Lumezi has demanded greater and pro-active commitment of chief prosecutor and prosecutors to track and identify the assets allegedly acquired through criminal acts, separately criminal acts involving the abuse of public funds.

Also addressed at this meeting were increased institutional co-operation regarding corruption cases, dealing with general audience reports, challenges in resolving cases inherited from unknown people (PPP), and increasing efficiency in dealing with cases of international judicial co-operation.

In order to boost transparency and advance public communication, the chief state prosecutor has called on all chief prosecutors to co-operate closely with all officials for public communication of prosecutors they conduct so that the media, civil society and the public in general will be constantly informed of the work, activities and results of the prosecution body.

At the end of the meeting, the chief state prosecutor has asked the chief prosecutor to establish performance in fighting corruption, organised crime, economic crimes, with particular emphasis on sequencing and confiscating property, dealing with war crimes and domestic violence, and to advance accountability and professionalism of the work of prosecutors they lead.
