On the 24th anniversary of the 1997 student protests, at his invitation, Republic of Kosovo Prime Minister Albin Kurti hosted the protest co-organists who made the political turn in Kosovo and echoed heavily internationally.
Family members of the late professor Ejup Statovci, Professor Drita Halimi Statovci and Anila Statovci were also at the meeting.
Prior to the meeting, Prime Minister Kurti placed fresh flowers at the tomb of Professor Statovci, who, along with the student organisers, stood in front of the mass protest, which for the main requirement had the unconditional release of university spaces seized by the Serbian regime.
Every October 1st, we remember the march in the 1997 protests of thousands of students dressed in white, who willingly for freedom and want to know, sought to free buildings and university space from the then Serbian regime and remind us of the intellectual that Professor Eup Statovci” led us, Prime Minister Kurti said.
He said that on October 1, 1997, a long silence and fear were broken, and the people began to restore dignity.
According to a government communiqué, the pre-preparative days of protests, the risks and difficult conditions of action were recalled, as well as the generosity of courageous people who had a strong desire for knowledge were able to continue teaching in schools and homes.
At the meeting were the then-prorector of the University of Pristina, Professor Ahmet Geca, head of the student Movement Minister Jedal Svecla, Deputy Prime Minister Hysen Durmishi, Bujar Dugolli, Fatban Bunnjaku, lives Reja, Lulzon Jagxhiu, Mihane Salihu, Mentor Bogaj, Milot Cakaj and Veton Demaj.
