Officials said the four dead were soldiers, while three people who were injured are civilians, including one child.
According to the state news agency, this attack was “a terrorist attempted attempted assassination” against Governor Ahmed Lamas, who is the secretary general of the South Transition Council (STC). This council is in competition with the central government supported by Saudi Arabia, for the control of Aden and the southern part of the country.
The government and the STC are allies in the Saudi-led coalition to fight the Huth rebels, which are backed by Iran, even though their reports are often tense.
Divisions south of Yemen have complicated United Nations efforts to end the war in Yemen, which has left tens of thousands of people dead.
