Kayar has also added that he has known that the task he is receiving is complex, but from the start it is facing various challenges.

The current situation is generally stable, and KFOR continues to carry out its mandate on a daily basis -- a mandate stemming from UN Security Council Resolution 1244 in 1999 to contribute to a safe environment and freedom of movement in Kosovo for all communities living there” -- Kayari has said in an interview for “Kosovo Online<3>.

Kosovo Security Force, under a previous agreement, must be authorised by KFOR commander before any defeat in northern Kosovo. Kosovo police can move freely throughout Kosovo. NATO expects domestic institutions to continue holding to agreements. In the first few weeks, I have met with the heads of institutions in Kosovo, who have assured me that before any action, there will be proper co-ordination with Kosovo and the deployment of KSF in northern Kosovo will continue to be based on announcement and preliminary approval by KFOR Commander”.

Asked about Serbian President Aleksandar Vuciq's statements, that Kosovo authorities are planning another action in the north, Kayari has said he does not want to speculate and that they are closely monitoring the situation and are committed to implementing their mandate.

The Hungarian general has also talked about joint patrols with Serbia's Army.

“KFOR has a long and excellent co-operation with the Army of Serbia at all levels of responsibility. KFOR will continue to co-operate closely with the Serbian Army and with Kosovo security organisations to ensure security throughout Kosovo. Synced patrols with the Serbian Army will continue along the administrative border”, Kayari has said.
