US President Joe Biden said that the US would come out to help protect Taiwan and that there was a commitment to protecting the island that China considered its own, forcing the White House to clarify its comments for the second time in three months that American politics on the issue did not [...]
“Yeah, we have a commitment to do that thing [to protect Taiwan],” said Biden on CNN the night he was asked if the United States would protect Taiwan from China.
The president had made a similar pledge in August, during an interview for ABC, insisting that the US would all defend key allies, including Taiwan, despite withdrawal from Afghanistan.
