“Yeah, we have a commitment to do that thing [to protect Taiwan],” said Biden on CNN the night he was asked if the United States would protect Taiwan from China.
The president had made a similar pledge in August, during an interview for ABC, insisting that the US would all defend key allies, including Taiwan, despite withdrawal from Afghanistan.
Biden said the United States had “sacred devotion” to protect the allies of Natos in Canada and Europe, and that this stood with “Japanese, South Korea and Taiwan”, reports The Guardian, translated into Albanian Perscope.
Later, the White House told fearful journalists that American politics towards Taiwan had not changed.
The U.S. President said that people should not worry about Washington's military power because “Kina, Russia and the rest of the world know that we are the most powerful army in world history. ”
