The company “Ferronikeli” made a decision on the temporary suspension of production due to continued electricity price growth in European markets. From this company said fourfold of the energy price has led to the decision to last until a second moment when prices normalise. [...]
This company's spokesman, Shpend Goodaqi, told Kosovo Press that the decision is painful and that it has not been easy at all, but it was the only remaining option, as all possible roads have been attempted for several months, also seeking government assistance with local energy generation.
The present-day decision by Ferronkelı for temporary production construction is very painful for the company, but also for the workers, there are 900 workers affected by this crisis, by this decision, and there are about 1,500 others who are suppliers or contractors from different companies from {Ferronkel]. The decision comes as the obligation without alternative due to increased electricity prices on European markets”, Gudaki said.
Gudaqi said that the serious situation has been regularly informed and assistance has been sought in Kosovo's government institutions, with which contacts continue to find a way out and overcome this extraordinary situation.
“>Ferroniki is looking, it's researching, the way to resume work in the short term, but there's little impact on the detension of prices on European markets. Co-operation is with Kosovo institutions, there have been some contacts and it is continuing. Yes, there are actually contacts with the Government of Kosovo, requests are made to them, and will continue to contact the Government of Kosovo so that a better solution can be found for Ferronkelin and all its employees”, Gudaki followed.
Goodaqi said the company will pay in the following month all employees who will be on mandatory vacation with 50% of their monthly salary, though they will be relieved of labour obligations.
He also stressed that the owners of “Ferronkelit” are in the process of investing over 7m euros, as they have previously invested over 18m more.
“Ven to note that the closure is temporary, Ferronkeli, respectively, entry of another 7 million, and Ferronkeli's interest is to start work quickly and continue with new investments to be completed in the pre-20x1 deadline, Gudzqi indicated.
In the end, he reiterated that the company continues to remain open and in search of alternatives that would enable the return to production as soon as possible, and therefore continues to keep all communication channels open with all Kosovo institutions.
