The Hungarian Armed Forces will grant NATO a general in service for the peacekeeping mission in Kosovo for a year.
Major General Ferenc Kayári will be in charge of KFOR since autumn, the Kosovo Clan reports.
Kayári for Hungarian media “MTI” has said it will be commander of troops from 27 countries (19 NATO members and eight partner countries) that provide KFOR personnel.
Hungary will also send the commander's political adviser and chief of the legal counseling department, as well as several other key officers who will hold key “ ” in KFOR, according to Kayári.
He also announced that the Hungarian Armed Forces had a system set out for staff training.
“From August 23rd to September 2nd, a team of about 50 KFOR commanders will participate in a training of the peacekeeping mission in Szalnok, Hungary. They will be informed, among other things, of their positions, of the tasks ahead, of the security situation in the Balkans, of the speeches on negotiation techniques, religious history, media management and public health knowledge and epidemiology”.
He also said KFOR was the longest-term and most successful operation of NATO since 1999.
The next KFOR commander said the security situation in the Balkans is currently stable, but fragile.
