European Commission Foreign Policy spokesman Peter Stano gave clarification to Borelli's statement of incidents in northern Kosovo, alleging that the goal is not to point one or the other.
Asked why Borell speaks of bias and non-coordination for this operation, which caused unrest in the north, spokesman Stano at today's regular press conference explained that the High Representative for foreign policy refers to “contact at”.
“The context of what is happening in northern Kosovo is related to the wider issue between Kosovo and Serbia, and it is about co-ordination whether one side decides to do something in a part with specific attributes such as the north of Kosovo, the usual practice is to have close co-ordination with the international community, with KFOR and colleagues on the other hand”, Stano said.
The spokesman added that Borelli's reaction does not refer to the police operation against smugglers on its own.
“Situate in that part of Kosovo is unstable and all that is done in that part of the territory must be taken into account, we said last time that any unilateral action should be avoided so that no confrontations are met”, said the European Commission's spokesman for MIA Agency
For the EC it is important that both sides be co-ordinated at any time, while Borelli's comment does not refer to the core of the fight against corruption, Stano says.
“What happened yesterday is the result of certain actions which were not co-ordinated”, Stano said and added that “cannot be reduced by the police operation itself, but that it is about comprehensive issues that are regularly turning to scene”.
The European Commission once again called on both sides to exploit Brussels' dialogue to resolve all issues.
