According to her, Pfizer and Modernna vaccines can be given to people with poor immune systems at least 28 days after their second dose.
The recommendation comes after studies showed that an additional dose of these vaccines enhances the ability to produce antibody antibodies COVID-19.
Although there is no direct evidence that the ability to produce antibodies in these protected patients COVID-19 is expected to increase protection in at least a few patients. EMA will continue to monitor any data that emerges on its effectiveness.
It is important to distinguish between additional doses for people with weakened immune systems and reinforcement doses for people with normal immune systems.
For people with normal immune systems, studies indicate an increase in antibodies levels when a strengthening dose is given approximately 6 months after the second dose of people from 18 to 55 years old.
Based on this information, the Committee concluded that reinforcement doses could be considered at least six months after the second dose for those aged 18 and older.
At the national level, public health agencies can give official recommendations on using strengthening doses, taking into account new efficiency data and limited security data. The danger of heart inflammation or other very rare side effects after a reinforcer is not yet known and is being monitored carefully.
EMA will continue to look at all the information on the safety and effectiveness of the vaccine.
The committee is currently assessing the data to support a reinforcement dose for Spipwax and will communicate the result when the assessment is complete. /tch
