Doctors in Lithuania find over a kilo of nails and screws in the patient's stomach

Doctors in Lithuania have removed more than a kilo of nails and screws from the stomach of a man who began to swallow metal objects after quitting alcohol. The man, who was not identified because of the patient's privacy, was hospitalised at the port city of Baltic, Klaipeda with pain [...]

An X-ray of his stomach showed metal-sized pieces of up to 10cm.

“During the three-hour X-ray surgery, all foreign troops, even the smallest, in the patient's stomach were removed,” said surgeon Sarunas Dailidenas.

The hospital provided the media with a photograph of a surgical tray loaded with nails and screws, writes Theuardia, broadcasts Klankosova.tv.

“We have never seen such a thing,” said Algirdas Slepavicius, the leading surgeon at Klaipeda Hospital for local media.

The doctor related that the man had begun swallowing metal objects during the last month after he stopped drinking. He added that the patient was in stable condition after surgery.
