This is a day of run-off elections in municipalities

If none of the mayoral candidates wins 50%+1 of the vote, then a new election round will be organised.

Therefore, the run-off in those municipalities where neither of the candidates wins the first, the second round of elections is held on November 14th.

The law on local elections envisions that if neither candidate wins more than 50% +1 votes in the total number of valid votes cast in that municipality, then the CEC is obliged to organise the second round between the two candidates who have won the most votes in the first round. The second round of elections is held Sunday, four weeks after the first round. In the second round, the candidate, who wins most of the votes, elected Komuna Mayor”, Elez said.

Elez has also shared some information about past local elections.

“In Local Elections 2017, the second round is organised in 50% of municipalities or in 19 out of 38. But, if we talk about the details of an election process, the second round has been organised at about 71% of the polling, or in 1,777 out of 2.505, as well as the number of citizens rightly voting in the second round has been about 72% of voters, or about 1.4 million voters from about 1.9 million voters<1>, Elez concluded.
