In announcing the State Department spokesman said Secretary Blinken reaffirmed the importance of the US-EU partnership and Washington's commitment to working with Brussels to face common challenges.
Secretary Blinken and Mr. Borrell discussed developments in Afghanistan, the issue of launching US-EU high-level dialogue on Russia, as well as the upcoming US-EU summit on China, expected to be held later this year.
The State Department press release reportedly praised the EU's continued support for the European perspective of the Western Balkans and dedication to the enlargement process. He also stressed the need to move forward with the opening of negotiations for the EU accession of Albania and Northern Macedonia, reports Voice of America.
When it comes to all the challenges we face around the world, the European Union is a major partner of the United States and there is virtually no challenge that we face and we are not working together for it”, Blinken said.
Borrell echoed the comments of the senior US diplomat.
He said the “ (European Union) seems to be the best partner and US best ally, and the transatlantic relationship is the most important relationship we have with the rest of the world”.
Borrell named the meeting an important step in relations between the European Union and Washington, especially as he said, in the area of security and defence.
Secretary Blinken and High Representative also underlined their strong support in efforts to restore democratic order in Venezuela.
