The President of the United States, Joe Biden, will leave for Europe on Thursday. The second presidential journey to the old continent is under way in other circumstances compared to the first in June.
The three-stop trip to Europe in the spring was a parade of statements that “America has returned”, but this week's visits to Italy and Great Britain are expected to reflect an effort to unite US partners against the world's most urgent challenges, CNN writes.
The climate is expected to be discussed Friday morning between the American president and Pope Francisescu, a historic meeting between the US's second Catholic president and cleric with attitudes similar to Biden about migration, income inequality and the environment.
Later, the White House chief is expected to deliver an important address on the climate during his participation at the COP26 summit in Glasgou, Scotland.
Biden is still widely seen outside the United States as being ill-treated after Donald Trump's four years of power, whose antagonist presence at the summit often irritated the alliances. However, Beden will find himself in the face of fresh challenges.
The chaotic withdrawal of troops from Afghanistan left the allies angry and skeptical of Biden's will to work together on global issues. The deal with Australia for nuclear submarines angered France so much that the French chief diplomat said this action could have been performed by Trump. This comparison has deeply irritated the American president, according to a person close to the case.
Speaking before Beden's departure for Europe, White House adviser for national security Jake Sullivan said the US and Europe are united before summits this week, despite developments in recent months.
